EMPLOYMENT, SKILLS & LEARNING

Tooting Common has a long history of providing work to unemployed people. For example when the Tooting Common Bathing Lake (now Tooting Bec Lido) was built in 1906 the construction team was made up of entirely local unemployed people. In partnership with the Tooting Common Heritage Project, Wandsworth ground maintenance contractor, idverde, has provided accredited training and learning opportunities in ground maintenance and landscape conservation for local unemployed people on Tooting Common through an Employment, Skills and Learning (ESL) project.

Already 34 candidates have taken part in a bespoke Level 1 City and Guilds Diploma in Land Based Studies (Environmental Conservation) with practical work on Tooting Common and since completing their training many candidates have secured employment. Another course is scheduled to start in October 2019. Should you wish to take part in this accredited training course  please register your interest with Job Centre Plus Wandsworth.
